Qatar Cancer Society “QCS” has launched campaign aims to raise awareness about childhood cancer “I’m a hero” which falls in September each year these cancers are  the second leading cause of death in children around the world .

Mariam al-Noaimi - General Manager of QCS said “this campaign aims to emphasize the important of early dictation and raise awareness about of these cancer in a simplified and interactive way for children and educate their families about ways to prevent it.” She thanked all those who contributed to the event in belief of the importance of community participation namely Qatar of Mall, Kids Mondo, Economic Zones Company "Manateq," Syrian American Medical Cent. Heba Nassar - Head of Health Education Department at QCS – said that eukemias are the most common childhood cancers, brain and central nervous system tumors are the second most common - According to statistics from the Ministry of Public Health - Qatar 2015.

She  summarized  risk factors  in  radiation, Environmental radiation, radiation during pregnancy, excessive exposure to the ultraviolet radiation are risk factors  and some of childhood cancers are caused by some viral infections, in addition to this  Mother active or passive smoking during pregnancy, or during the period prior to conception and Inherited genetic abnormalities. She advised parents saying “should be sure that their children have regular medical check-ups and watch for any unusual signs or symptoms that do not go away.”


She explained that we can reduce your child risk of cancer by minimize radiation exposure during pregnancy breast feeding for 6 months or longer, reduce your child risk of cancer, make sure that your child is taking all scheduled vaccines, keep healthy sleeping pattern for the children m Create a happy, laughter filled house; which will improve their immune systems.

She added "in addition  to this  Help them adopt a healthy lifestyle with healthy eating habits and plenty of exercise to keep a healthy weight through Replace their unhealthy snacks with fruits, vegetables and nuts and encourage them to play motor games instead of electronic games and protect your child from smoking through stop smoking during pregnancy, after birth protect them from passive smoking m finally keep your children safe during sun exposure (use the sun protection items: sunglasses, sunblock, long sleeves clothes, and wide hats)."

She added “Some children have a higher chance of developing a specific type of cancer because of certain gene changes they inherit from a parent. These children may need careful, regular medical check-ups that include special tests to look for early signs of cancer.”
