Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) has announced activities to mark World Cancer Day on Thursday by creating awareness about the disease and how to take early test and prevent it. Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Jabor Al Thani, Chairman, QCS, told a press conference yesterday at the society’s headquarters World Cancer Day which falls on February 4 unites the global population in the fight against cancer.

QCS has selected February  25 to be Qatar Day for Cancer to highlights precaution, early test, and care about the disease. On World Day for Cancer, Sheikh Dr Khalid said the activities will highlight the increasing number of deaths due to the disease, which reaches annually to 8.2 million around the world World Day for Cancer is a chance to spread a health culture and support cancer patients, he added. Activities will be held under the theme ‘We are able... I am able’ and will take a positive approach to fight the disease.

Activities will the day like an entertainment and awareness day to attract more and more people from all walks of life and in different age groups, he added. QCS last year provided aid to 1,700 patients at a cost of QR3.5m. Sheikh Dr Khalid said cooperation between QCS and Hamad Medical Corporation serves dozens of cases. QCS  has been cooperating with private health sector and both have treated many cases through donations, with the fixed amount for each case being QR20,000.

Activities will be held at Katara, for school students from 9am to noon and for all categories and age groups from 4pm to 8pm.
