Qatar Japan 2012 team at Qatar Museums Authority (QMA) in collaboration with Qatar Eastern Language Center announces the launch of a manga drawing competition to coincide with the year-long series of cultural, sporting, and business events and activities planned to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Qatar and Japan.

The participants in the competition should have their entries submitted before 21 June, 2012. The competition titled “Qatari Culture Manga Style!” consists of drawing a short manga that showcases an aspect of the Qatari culture and tradition that interest the Japanese audience. The drawings have to include a message depicting the Qatari culture and can be creative in showcasing that in any way possible.

The concept behind the competition is to present a fusion of the two cultures by presenting the Qatari culture using an aspect of the Japanese culture. It is also one of the projects handled by Qatar Japan 2012 to support the artists in Qatar.

This competition is open for Qataris and non-Qataris. The winners, including three Qatari nationals and one resident, will have their entries printed in a booklet and distributed during “Ferjaan: Qatar in Tokyo”, Qatari week, taking place in Tokyo, Japan, in September 2012, and the first place Qatari winner will also get a free Japanese language course presented by the competition’s sponsor, Qatar Eastern Language Center.

Drawing lovers are invited to compete. The entry can be as short as 3-4 pages only. Qataris are requested to submit the entry in Arabic, while non-Qataris submit in English. Winning entries will be translated to Japanese for the audience in Tokyo, Japan. The judging panel will consist of both Qatari and Japanese residents in Qatar. Further information and details are available at Qatar-Japan 2012 website www.qatarjapan2012.com. Deadline for submission is 21st June, 2012.
