Qatar Petroleum (QP) highlighted the prime importance of an active and healthy lifestyle, as it organized a wide range of activities for QP employees and their families as part of National Sport Day 2016. Around 6,000 thousand staff members and their families took part in this annual event, which was led by Mr. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Qatar Petroleum President & CEO, with the participation of QP’s Vice Presidents and senior officials. His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, visited the venue of QP’s sports activities, where he was warmly welcomed by Mr. Al-Kaabi and other top QP officials.

Dr. Al-Sada toured the venue and expressed his appreciation on the wide range of QP activities to celebrate National Sport Day 2016. In his comments on the occasion, Mr. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Qatar Petroleum President & CEO said “Qatar Petroleum’s participation in National Sport Day is an important testament to our commitment to the development sports, and our efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle.” “It is heartwarming to see the level of engagement and harmony by all QP staff members and their families not just in celebrating this day, but also in embodying the strong and united QP family,” Mr. Al-Kaabi added.

The corporation’s activities at the Aspire Park included a mini-football tournament, table tennis, tug-of-war, a volleyball tournament, an obstacle course, human foosball and a walking marathon. Children of all ages also had lots of fun as they played various games, including penalty shootouts, free throw shooting, a spoon race and sack race, sumo wrestling, as well as an inflatable climbing wall. There were also on-stage activities, such as an aerobics class as well as a jump rope demonstration and workshop.

In addition to QP’s National Sport Day celebration in Doha, hundreds of employees attended sports activities and competitions held in Dukhan, Halul Island, and in offshore production stations. In Dukhan, QP employees and their families engaged in fun-filled competitions in table tennis, basketball, cricket, golf, badminton, darts, beach volleyball, Petanque, rugby and sailing. A so-called “Kids Zone” was also set up for children’s activities, and also organized were gym workouts, Zumba and aerobics for fitness enthusiasts.

Meanwhile, QP employees and contractor staff in Halul Island competed in a 3-kilometer marathon and tug-of-war, while offshore staff in a number of locations marked National Sport Day 2016 with various games such as darts, table tennis, billiards, ‘babyfoot’ or foosball, and arm wrestling. The winners of the sports tournaments and competitions were awarded with trophies and medals, and all the participants went home tired but happy and eagerly looking forward to another National Sport Day celebration next year.
