Qatar University (QU) and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) have signed an agreement to develop, support and enrich academic and research activities and boost professional development at College of Pharmacy.

The deal was  inked by Prof Sheikha Abdulla Al Misnad, President, QU, and Prof Dato’ Omar Osman, Vice-Chancellor, USM, in the presence of QU Vice President and Chief Academic Officer Dr Mazen Hasna, USM Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Innovation Dr Muhammad Jantan, the Dean of the college, Dr Ayman El Kadi, and faculty.

The deal includes student and faculty exchanges, joint participation in research, teaching of best practice in public sector leadership, and joint training and development programmes for professional and non-academic staff.

Prof Al Misnad praised cooperation between QU and several pioneering Malaysian universities such as USM and said QU is interested in knowing more about Malaysia’s successful academic model that is contributing to its development.

Dr Osman said the deal highlights the importance of cooperation with QU, a pioneering academic institution in the region. It addresses student exchange, research, social development and staff development. He said USM offers diverse majors and enjoys good international relationships and is one of top 200 universities in the world. 

Dr El Kadi said the agreement will bring together faculty and students of pharmacy to advance collaboration and exchanges for benefit of both parties. 

In partnering with USM for these activities, the college is enhancing academic and research portfolio, and advancing professional development programmes with expertise and experience from USM that mirror those at the college.
