Qatar University (QU) will hold its second annual Health Sciences Open Day on April 30. The event is being jointly organised by College of Pharmacy (CPH) and College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) Department of Health Sciences for prospective students and parents to learn about careers in Pharmacy, Biomedical Sciences and Human Nutrition.

The day’s programme will feature information tours in Arabic and English languages on each of the three disciplines conducted by health science tour guides. It will also include student/faculty interaction, live demonstrations, role plays, student research presentations, sponsors, videos and a healthy-lifestyle buffet meal.

Prospective students will also have the opportunity to meet with and discuss future career benefits with organisations like Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Sidra Medical and Research Center, Qatar Petroleum, Ebn Sina Medical, Qatar Pharma and others.

They will also be provided with demonstrations and information material from non-profit organisations such as Qatar Diabetes Association and Think Pink Qatar to educate them about ongoing campaigns and the importance of volunteering to promote public awareness.

Commenting on the event, CPH Dean Dr Peter Jewesson said, “This event is built on the last year’s success in which we were able to talk to prospective students and their parents about careers in the life sciences. We also informed them about roles and responsibilities of pharmacists and other health science professionals in advancing health and wellbeing in the community.

The timing of this event is ideal as it follows the release of the National Health Strategy which envisions considerable job opportunities for graduates in the various health-related fields”. Head of the Department of Health Sciences Dr Tahra alObeid said, “The field of health sciences is a very rewarding one as it has a positive impact on the community’s health.

Our graduates are well-equipped to assume as health-care providers, researchers, consultants and technicians for the benefit of the Qatari community. We look forward to meeting our future students at this event and to impress on them the value of the knowledge and skills they will gain in their studies here at QU”.
