RasGas Company Limited (RasGas) received the top award from Qatar Petroleum for excellence in Sustainability Reporting for Large Scale Organisations for the second consecutive year. The award was presented by HE Dr Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman and Managing Director of QP.

“We are deeply honoured to receive this award from HE Dr Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman and Managing Director of Qatar Petroleum.  Our 2012 Sustainability Report clearly demonstrates our commitment to the conservation and preservation of our natural resources, human resources and the well- being of our community. This Report outlines what RasGas is doing to conserve the precious resources of energy and water and protect people’s health at work and in the community,” said Hamad Rashid Al Mohannadi, RasGas Chief Executive Officer.

“We made significant progress with our major capital projects that include the recently commissioned Helium 2 plant, and the on-going construction of the Barzan Gas Project.  It is important to note that while we have undertaken very complex and large projects, we have done so with our eyes clearly focussed on several initiatives to enhance safety and to protect the environment. We have exceeded our national recruitment target for Qataris and have solid people development processes and plans in place,” he added.

In 2012, RasGas launched its second five-year flare minimisation programme which is set to continue the trend of downward emissions of CO2, ultimately targeting 90 per cent reduction from the flaring levels of 2005. RasGas also maintained an industry low lost time incident (LTI) rate of 0.01 in 2012, showing consistent safety performance improvement over time despite more than doubling the contractor workforce and completing almost 70 million man hours of construction work. RasGas ranked as the best performer when compared with 20 of the largest companies in the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers’ safety performance benchmarking report.

In terms of outreach to the local community, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) -related activities focused on Health in 2012 and promoted numerous initiatives involving employees and the community to prevent illness and encourage a positive lifestyle. RasGas worked with programmes such as Aspire’s Step Into Health and Qatar Diabetes Association’s Boys’ Camp which were designed to improve daily habits and exercise decisions, placing people in good stead for the future.

The RasGas 2012 Sustainability Report, launched earlier this year, provides a comprehensive review of the Company’s environmental, social and economic performance. It was prepared in accordance with guidelines on sustainability reporting from shareholder company Qatar Petroleum and adopted guidance specific to the oil and gas industry prepared by the International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association (IPIECA) and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

RasGas was the first Qatari energy company to issue a sustainability report, in 2009. The Company received the top accolade for large-scale organisations for its 2011 Sustainability Report at the first ever Excellence in Sustainability Reporting Awards ceremony held by QP. The RasGas Sustainability Report for 2012 has further improved on the previous reports both in content and presentation by expanding its coverage and making it available online.  For the first time, the report is available in Arabic as well.  These can be viewed at
