Reach Out to Asia (ROTA) will host youth consultations at a two-day meeting here on September 1 and 2 ahead of the first-ever United Nations World Humanitarian Summit (WHS) to be held in Istanbul on May 23 and 24, 2016. The WHS is a call to action by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to reduce human loss and suffering from crises globally. The Istanbul Summit will set an agenda for change to make humanitarian action fit for the great challenges the world faces now and in the future.

As part of the build-up to the Summit, the ROTA event next month will see young men and women discuss and forward proposals seeking solutions on the response to disasters and humanitarian crises. The proposal arrived at the ROTA event will be submitted to the 2016 Istanbul summit. ROTA is hosting the youth consultation meeting in association with the UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs. The UN body chose ROTA to host the event due to the initiative of young people in Qatar and other parts on global issues that affect them.

By hosting such youth consultations, ROTA aims to spur Qatari youth to discuss and give their view points on global issues and engage in humanitarian work.
