The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has explained that the circular on the extension of the grace period for private insurance companies to cover basic health services to citizens until April 2016 pertains only to basic health services provided by the National Health Insurance Company (NHIC).

In a statement issued today the Council said private insurance companies shall have the right to cover additional health services uncovered by Seha - the national health insurance scheme in the State of Qatar - including treatment abroad. The council has received many inquiries from citizens via telephone and social media on the circular and its effect on the additional health services provided by private insurance companies. The circular, the SCH had issued last April to all insurance companies and providers of healthcare services in the State of Qatar contained a package of basic health services provided by Seha.
