The Bedaya Center for Entrepreneurship and Career Development (Bedaya Center), a joint initiative by Qatar Development Bank and Silatech, staged a summer training programme for 23 young Qatari recruits and interns from Qatar Chemical Company (Q-Chem) for the second year running. The programme was held over eight days at the Qatar Independent Technical School (QITS). Bedaya Center won Q-Chem’s tender again to carry out the training programme that helps young recruits “trainees” adapt to their new work environment and lay the foundations for a bright career future.

The programme included several key, youth-related training areas such as career planning, creating a curriculum vitae, learning how to conduct a job interview, handling staff personality differences and how this affects the process of building a work team and enhancing their skills.  Also the programme covered time management, problem solving, effective communication, public speaking, influencing leadership skills and how to make a positive change and set goals. In addition to the workshops, Bedaya Center offered career guidance sessions for all trainees, to help them set clear future goals identify their strengths and leverage them, and create a career plan for future training and development.

Our programme helps to develop the skills of those who have recently entered the industry and prepares them to be the sector’s future leaders,” said Hamad Al Kubaisi, Bedaya Center’s board member.

This is part of Q-Chem’s ongoing efforts to support our commitment of Total Quality Qatarization.  We believe that such trainings enrich and strengthen students’ development and progress. The two week classroom training is followed by two days of Q-Chem plant orientation which is critical to understanding QChem’s Values, our commitment to safety, our employees, the environment, and the community in which we operate.  Further, the students gain a keen understanding on how Q-Chem conducts business. ” said Michael Zeglin, Q-Chem Deputy General Manager.

Salem bin Saeed bin Norah, a Q-Chem trainee, said: “I learned a lot from the programme and acquired various key skills. Now I am able to set my goals, work with different personality types and talk in public confidently and attractively. Equally important, Bedaya Center explained to me the best career choices that suit my interests and personality, and we were able to outline a work plan for the next stages in my career.”
