Souq Al Wakra, which started its five-day Eid Al Fitr celebrations yesterday, is expected to receive 60,000 visitors in a day, said a senior official.

“We expect big crowds this year because people including citizens and expatriates could not travel during Eid Al Fitr due to schools and examinations of their children,” Khalid Saif Al Suwaidi, Head of Souq Al Wakra, told The Peninsula. He said that the facility of Souq Al Wakra is ready to receive the visitors expected to reach over 60,000 people in a day for this time. “Keeping in mind the big crowd, necessary arrangements were made to facilitate the visitors like parking lots and provision of other services related to security, ambulance, civil defense among many more,” said Al Suwaidi.

He said that the activities at Souq Al Wakra are being held from 4pm to 10pm. “A big air-conditioned tent was set up at the premises of Souq Al Wakra. Over 60 games will be held inside and outside the tent,” said Al Suwaidi. He said that one of the major attractions for visitors is fireworks display which will begin at 8.30pm and last for five minutes. “Souq Al Wakra is hosting an array of activities including skill games, magic show, water sports and stage shows among many more which are being organised by famous international companies,” said Al Suwaidi, adding that pony and camel  ride is also available.

He said that all companies came from abroad like fireworks from France and magic show from Belarus. He said that traditional songs and dances are also being performed. “The visitors including families and individuals will enjoy during their visit to Souq Al Wakra as apart from Eid related activities, over 80 restaurants and 1,000 shops offering different varieties of food and non-food items are awaiting the visitors,” said Al Suwaidi. Speaking about services at Al Wakra beach, he said that since life guard service is available till 6pm so the people should take extra care after this time.
