Stenden University Qatar has appointed internationally-renowned and award-winning tourism expert Dr John Ap as Professor of Tourism Management.

Professor Ap joins Stenden Qatar from Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) – whose School of Hotel and Tourism Management is ranked no. 2 globally in terms of academic scholarship and research in tourism. His appointment significantly means that Stenden Qatar can offer first-class tourism research capabilities.

In his new role, Prof Ap will bring his high-level expertise to Qatar, underlining the importance of quality research in the industry. This will further cement Stenden Qatar’s position as the region’s only professional hospitality, tourism and international business management college with an outstanding track record in graduate job placement and alumni career success.

Prof Ap, who specialises in perceptions of tourism impacts, has published over 120 academic research papers and publications, primarily focussed on tourist behaviour and the social psychology of tourism. He has been involved in consultancy projects related to tourism and recreation planning studies, theme park studies and market research studies.Among the prestigious awards bestowed upon Professor Ap is the Travel & Tourism Research Association’s Best Article Award for his paper on “Developing and Testing of a Tourism Impact Scale” published in the leading and top-tier Journal of Travel Research.  Earlier this year, Prof Ap was honoured with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, School of Hotel & Tourism Management’s 2013 Teaching Excellence Award.
