Vodafone Qatar today marked World Cancer Day, in partnership with the Qatar Cancer Society, by hosting a cancer awareness session for its employees.

The Qatar Cancer Society gave Vodafone’s employees an overview of the most common types of cancer, the signs and symptoms to look for, what preventative measures can be taken and the importance of early detection. World Cancer Day is held on February 4 every year and is a global observance that helps raise people's awareness of cancer and how to prevent, detect, and treat it.  The day aims to save millions of preventable deaths each year by also educating about the disease.

Currently, 8.8 million people die from cancer worldwide every year, out of which, 4 million people die prematurely. In Qatar, there are 1,400 new cancer cases every year with breast cancer as the most common type of cancer. “Spreading the awareness about cancer is our responsibility as a company that puts its people’s wellbeing at the heart of everything we do. Each year in February we stress the importance of early detection and are committed to continue raising the awareness,” said Mohammed Al Yami, Director of External Affairs, Vodafone Qatar.
