A week-long education festival featuring an array of activities such as workshops, movie screenings, exhibitions, lectures and performances will be held in different locations across Qatar from November 10 to 16.

Titled 'Doha Learning Week', the event is aimed at mobilising the whole community to come together to celebrate education and various educational initiatives in Qatar. The various activities will cover an array of topics including career development, technology and entrepreneurship. The event is being organised by World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE), in collaboration with the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), Katara and some international partners.

"Doha is a city where education is at the heart of everything that we do. It is amazing to see so many organisations contributing to the levels of education that we see around us. The vision of Doha Learning Week is to become a celebration of learning and education. It is a core part of the national strategy and we, as WISE, are a global platform that promotes and advocates for education. We felt the need to give back to the community not by introducing our own events or set of activities but by mobilising the great organisations and education institutions that exist here who are doing phenomenal works," Stavros Yiannouka, CEO of WISE, said during the launch of the event at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) Student Centre on Thursday.

The Doha Learning Week primarily aims to engage young people in the country. The featured activities include Generation Amazing Football Activity, STEM Learning Open House, Open Mic Night, Learning through Films, Doha Debate Alumni Debate and WISE Hackathon. The activities will take place at various locations including Katara, Corniche, HBKU Student Centre and Cinema, Awsaj Academy, Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Auditorium, Newton School branches and Doha British School.

Ameena A Hussain, director of programmes and community development at WISE, added that the education festival in Doha aims to bring together the best initiatives in Qatar to enrich the educational system as well as to showcase Qatar's strong heritage in education. "We were inspired by a couple of events outside Qatar and one of them is the Edinburg International Science Festival where the whole city comes together around the topic of science, hosting different activities for different age groups and different organisations. We thought that we have great initiatives here taking place locally so why not create this platform where we all come together and join the efforts of celebrating education," she said.

One of the featured events in the week-long festival is a TEDx event on education being organised for the first time in Doha by students from Qatar University. "TEDxAlDafnaED conference is one of TED X's events focusing on education. Here, we are trying to tackle issues of education and explore innovative solutions as we look forward to the future. The speakers will include professors, heads of educational institutions and students", Majd al Shibli, director of Media & External Communication at TEDxAlDafnaED Board of Organisers said.

Shibli added,"We also intend to get the best ideas from the audience as we want the young people and students to play an active role in the education process."
