Qatar Fuel (Woqod) will be opening 10 new petrol stations before the end of 2016, with some of them ready to operate by the end of October, the company said on Wednesday. Among the new stations are ones located in Old Al Ghanim, Hamad International Airport, Al Wukair, Old Al Rayyan, Al Muntazah, Al Wakrah (Mesaieed Road), Al Shamal and Al Khor.

Work is ongoing in four stations that will be ready next year in the areas of Umm Ghuwailina, New Salata, Al Thumama and Lusail, Woqod CEO Eng. Ibrahim Jaham Al Kuwari said, adding that seven other stations are currently being planned and are expected to be accelerated towards opening during the first quarter of 2017. Addressing the issue of traffic jams in front of petrol stations, Al Kuwari said the main reason is the inadequate number of stations in some areas and the increase in the number of cars this year.

He added that nine privately-owned stations have recently closed, putting more pressure on existing stations, which prompted Woqod to accelerate work in several stations this year so as to alleviate the suffering of petrol station users. Al Kuwari said mobile stations were installed in many areas to ease pressure on existing stations in Al Wakrah, Al Wukair, Al Kharrara, Sealine and Al Shamal.
